AGRI-SECTOR PLAYS VITAL ROLE IN SECURING FOOD SUPPLY
CLOSE COORDINATION. The Provincial Government of Bohol (PGBh) through the Office of the Provincial
Agticulturist (OPA) is closely coordinating with the Municipal Agriculturists/Municipal Agricultural Officers (MAs/MAOs)
and agri-agencies to ensure stable supply of basic staples. Provincial Agriculturist Liza M. Quirog (standing with mic)
urges all to work together to ensure that Bohol will not run out of food supply, especially rice and corn, during this
crisis.
according to Provincial Agriculturist Liza M. Quirog
During the Provincial Coordinating Committee on Agri-Fisheries coordination meeting held on March 18, 2026,
at JJ’s Seafood Village, and attended by the Municipal Agriculturists/Municipal Agricultural Officers (MAs/MAOs),
Quirog emphasized the importance of accountability ensuring that food remains available in local markets.
She also assured the public that there is no reason to panic over rice supply despite rising prices, as current
stocks are sufficient to last at least two months. Additionally, the peak harvest season in March and April is expected
to further boost supply and stabilize availability.
However, Quirog stressed that complacency must be avoided. She noted that some large-scale exporters continue
to ship rice to other provinces, a practice that may affect local supply. She discouraged farmers from selling their
produce to traders engaged in such activities and urged the public to practice responsible consumption and avoid
wastage.
Quirog further stated that the Provincial Government of Bohol (PGBh), under Gov. Aris C. Aumentado, along
with agriculture agencies, is actively working to stabilize food availability amid rising commodity prices caused by
the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Quirog disclosed that initial discussions with the governor included the possibility of regulating rice exportation
should the crisis persist, in order to protect Boholano consumers.
The provincial agriculturist also underscored the importance of collaboration among MAs/MAOs and other agri-
stakeholders to achieve the shared goal of stabilizing supply and prices.
“Let us all work together and think carefully about how we can perform our roles effectively to ensure that
Bohol will not run out of food supply, especially basic staples, during this crisis,” Quirog said. (Atoy Cosap)
