Rice 2022

The Hybrid Rice Program with its 30 million budget allocation was able to provide 5,134 bags of seeds to rice farmers with 1 hectare to 1 bag of seeds ratio. Served rice farmers were from 13 Local Government Units who are top rice producing municipalities in the province.

Due to the stable pricing of palay in the province, OPA has not bought additional palay under the buy-back program since its primary purpose is to stabilize the buying price of palay from farmers. However, milling continued wherein 63,249 kilograms of palay were milled. On the other hand, remaining stocks of the Palay Buy-back were sold and obtained sales at around P 978,751.00 for 2022.

With the unavailability of the Rice Processing Center drying capabilities due to damages sustained by Typhoon Odette, personnel of OPA resorted to sun-drying, re-bagging, hauling of palay and rice as well as repacking of the remaining stocks.

As part of personnel development, two personnel from the rice section of OPA attended 2 important trainings in relation to rice production. Mr. Gejorisli M. Grado attended Agro-Ecosystem Analysis (AESA) Training at the Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice) on August 31, 2022. On the other hand, Mr. Pablo Juaton and Alquin Boncales attended the Training on Rice Duck Farming System at Labonite Farm, San Isidro, Pilar last August 16-18, 2022.

Last October 11, 2022, the province of Bohol became an Excellence Awardee for Region VII in the implementation of the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund – Seed and Extension Programs being the primary partner of the Department of Agriculture in the distribution of around 63,950 bags of high quality rice seeds to Boholano farmers.
