20th Ubi Festival a success

The four-day 20th Ubi Festival in the province of Bohol had conducted successfully with the Department of Agriculture Secretary William D. Dar as a keynote speaker and the enthusiasm showed by the 27 exhibitors and the happy faces of the winners of the different contests.
Dr. Larry M. Pamugas, Officer-In-Charge, Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) said the Ubi Festival held at the Bohol Agricultural Promotion Center, Dao, Tagbilaran City last January 28-31, 2020 as the venue wherein the DA Sec. Dar turned over and committed to allocate P380 million worth of agriculture and fishery programs and projects to the province of Bohol.
Sec. Dar also led the awarding of P60 million worth of various agri-machineries, inputs and projects, under the Special Area for Agriculture Development (SAAD) program; P106 million composed of imbued seeds distribution, agri-machineries for 100 farmers (P80M), and training and extension (P10M), to acting Governor Rene L. Relampagos.
The festival was savored by the different contests with big prizes at stake.

For bugno sa rondalya; 1st prize – San Isidro, Bohol (P10,000), 2nd – Carmen, Bohol (P7,000), 3rd – Sikatuna (P5,000); highest volume of Ubi tubers displayed – 1st Carmen (P10,000), 2nd – Ubay (P7,000), 3rd Dauis (P5,000); best Ubi booth / Ubi exhibit – 1st Carmen (P10,000), 2nd – Dauis (P8,000), 3rd – Corella, Bohol (P6,000), 4th – Dimiao (P4,000), 5th – Talibon (P3,000); pinaka (the best quality ubi harvest): Kinampay – 1st – Sevilla (P5,000), Baligonhon – 1st Sikatuna (P4,000), Tam-isan – 1st – Dimiao (P3,000).
Ubi balitaw contest (farmer category) – 1st Panglao (P3,000), 2nd Sikatuna (P2,000), 3rd Prize Carmen (P1,000); Ubi balitaw (youth) – 1st Baclayon (P3,000), 2nd Sikatuna (P2,000), 3rd Corella (P1,000); doble kara – 1st Dauis (P3,000), 2nd Panglao (P2,000), 3rd Carmen (P1,000); Ubi challenge eating – 1st Baclayon (P2,500), 2nd Cortes (P2,000), 3rd Tagbilaran City(P1,500); Motorcade – 1st Carmen (P5,000), 2nd Corella (P3,000), 3rd Panglao (P2,000) best new Ubi processed product – 1st Carmen (P3,000), 2nd Baclayon (P2,000), 3rd Balilihan (P1,000), highest sales of Ubi – 1st Ubay, 2nd Dauis and 3rd Carmen; most cooperative LGU- Carmen; and best Ubi growers- Romulo Campoamor and Esmeraldo Maligsa.
Dr. Pamugas thanked all the exhibitors for the success of the celebration and encouraged them to continue engaging Ubi farming as the provincial government has strongly supported them.
The Officer-In-Charge of OPA said the sum of P2M has been allocated by the PGBh to buy planting materials for Ubi dispersal to boost the Ubi industry in Bohol.
There were 27 exhibitors participated in the last 20th Ubi Festival namely: Alicia, Sikatuna, Dauis, Albur, Baclayon, Antequera, Panglao, Balilihan, Talibon, Cortes, Tagbilaran City, Carmen, Dimiao, Ubay, Sevilla, Loon, Corella, Valencia, San Isidro, Bohol Ubi Growers Association (BUGA), KURE, Kapunungan sa mga Bol-anong Organikong Mag-uuma (KBoOM), AIM for Progress, Bohol Dairy Cooperative (BODACO), P&t, CFA-Ubay and Aldtrz Corporation.
The Ubi Festival has been institutionalized in the province of Bohol through an ordinance that had passed on the year 2000 during the administration of then Gov. Rene L. Relampagos and Vice Gov. Edgar M. Chatto. (Atoy Cosap)
