GEF 2022
The Provincial Government of Bohol has a partnership program with the Department of Agriculture funded by the World Bank with counterpart funding from the former lodged in different departments. One of the programs lodged with the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist is the Philippine Rural Development Project – Global Environment Facility aiming to provide micro enterprises to fisherfolk organizations and marine protected areas (MPA) rehabilitation and protection.
A total of P 32,369,521.73 has already been allocated to the PRDP-GEF subcomponent projects for 8 fisherfolk people’s organization beneficiaries. Various microenterprise projects for the 8 MPA sites have already been completed. The 8 MPA sites are the following:
- GUINDACPAN MARINE SANCTUARY, TALIBON
- CATABAN MARINE SANCTUARY, TALIBON
- BILANGBILANGAN EAST MARINE SANCTUARY, BIEN UNIDO
- HINGOTANAN WEST MARINE SANCTUARY, BIEN UNIDO
- AGUINING MARINE PROTECTED AREA, PRES. CPG
- SIDLAKAN MARINE SANCTUARY, SAGUISE, PRES. CPG
- SINANDIGAN FISH SANCTUARY, UBAY
- ASINAN REEF FISH SANCTUARY, BUENAVISTA
For bangus production in these 8 sites, 8 Techno Demo on Bangus production was conducted wherein bangus fingerlings seeded in all of the sites yielded 9,131 kilograms of bangus harvest. A scuba diving and resource management training was also conducted which trained 20 individuals to monitor and ensure sustainability of the subject MPAs. Regular biophysical monitoring on 8 sites to gather data on the state of its marine flora and fauna. A paratechnician meeting and technology demonstration on seaweed culture method (hanging longline using double loop) was conducted wherein 3 out of 8 sites adopting the same method. On the other hand, the final MPA Biophysical Feature of Fish Stock and Coral Reef Assessment was also done in all the MPA sites. Finally, the GEF-MPA summit held in Cordova Cebu was attended by representatives from 5 municipalities and representatives from the Provincial Government of Bohol sponsored by the PRDP-GEF Program.
