The year 2023 witnessed the vibrant celebration of the Ubi Festival twice, showcasing the rich cultural heritage and Ubi abundance of Bohol. The first festival, held from January 26 to 30, 2023, at the Old City Airport in Tagbilaran City, marked a five-day extravaganza. Featuring 18 exhibitors, the festival garnered impressive sales of 466,737.75 pesos, with meticulous monitoring of transactions. A staggering 10.05 metric tons of diverse agricultural products were proudly displayed, echoing the festival’s theme, “Industriya sa Ubi Palamboon, Katambayayong sa Pag-abante sa mga Bol-anon.” Later in the year, from December 4 to 6, 2023, the Ubi Festival returned with equal fervor at the Bohol Cultural Center, marked a three-day celebration.
This edition featured 14 exhibitors from LGUs and four other agencies, generating sales of 304,609.90 pesos. With a total volume of 9,195 kilograms of agricultural products meticulously monitored, echoing the theme “UBI, Hamili’ng Lagutmon Kaabag sa mga Bol-anon Niiing hagit sa panahon,” this festival further emphasized the significance of the ubi industry in promoting local products and fostering community development.
The Agri Fair 2023, held from July 17 to 19 at Tagbilaran City Airport, was a dynamic three-day celebration showcasing the agricultural prowess of Bohol. Featuring 32 exhibitors, the fair attracted significant attention, with monitored sales reaching 1,237,675.75 pesos. In addition, a total volume of 8,964 kilograms of agricultural products was on display, highlighting the island’s agricultural diversity and productivity. Under the theme “Kayutaan ug kadagatan palambuon subay sa hagit sa panahon,”
The SUHID sa Malampusong Mag-uumang Bol-anon 2023 awarding ceremony took place at the Ceremonial Hall of the New Capitol Building in Tagbilaran City on November 28, 2023. The event celebrated and recognized the outstanding achievements of Boholano farmers and fisherfolk who have demonstrated excellence in their respective fields of agriculture. As part of the ceremony, several SUHID machineries and equipment were awarded to deserving recipients. These included a fabricated fiberglass motorized pump boat (22-footer), another fabricated fiberglass motorized pump boat (30-footer), two units of power tillers (mudboats), two units of corn shellers, nine units of garden cultivators, one unit of a mechanical pruner, eight units of power sprayers, and six units of water pumps.
The SUHID program, an annual activity of the Provincial Government of Bohol, aims to award and recognize the Boholano farmers and fisherfolks who have excelled in their respective field of agriculture and have continued to help the Provincial Government in shaping up the agricultural landscape in Bohol.
