‘Seeds’ to Boost Corn Production
Aimed to support the Food Security Program of the government, the Provincial Government of Bohol (PGBh) through the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) has procured corn seeds to be distributed to the corn farmers to boost corn production in Bohol.
Abita A. Perez, and Leon Parac, Jr. from the crops and productivity division, OPA said some 750 sacks of USM Variety 10 (white corn) from Banga, South Cotabato have been purchased in preparation for the coming corn cropping season in April and May this year.
They said the seeds would be given to the corn farmers associations and individuals during the conducts of HEAT-IT Caravans, Mini HEAT-Caravans in the different parts of the province and to the walk-in clients at the OPA.
Perez and Parac bared that Bohol has 16,865 hectares (has.) of land potential for corn planting located in the towns of Carmen, Danao, Sagbayan, Ubay, Sierra-Bullones, Dagohoy, San Miguel, Trinidad, Alicia, Anda as cluster areas and for the non-cluster areas; Valencia, Panglao, Dauis, and the rest of the towns in the province.
They urged the farmers to just coordinate with the Municipal Agriculture Office in their respective municipalities for them to be the beneficiaries of the corn seeds which could be given free.
The OPA has been giving some interventions to the corn growers not only the seeds but also of giving new technology on corn farming. (Atoy Cosap)
