The Provincial Government of Bohol (PGBh) through the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA)
will award the cash prizes and plaques to the winners of the Suhid sa Malampusong Mag-uumang Bol-
anon 2021 during the recognition and awarding ceremony to be held on Thursday, 10am at the 4 th Floor,
New Capitol Building, Cogon, Tagbilaran City.
Some 25 farmers and fisherfolks who have excelled in their respective field will receive their cash
prizes and plaques of recognition for the different categories of the tilt.
Assistant Provincial Agriculturist Larry M. Pamugas said that SUHID is the annual activity of the
PGBh aims to award and recognize the agri-fishery sectors who have exemplary performance which the
provincial government considered them as models in the province for other Boholanos to emulate.
The outstanding farmers/fisherfolks and associations which come from 15 municipalities are the
following: Tultugan Organic Farmers Association of Tultugan, Calape as Outstanding Organic
Agriculture Practitioners (Association) that will receive P15,000 and plaques; Amelia O. Virtudazo
(Malbog, Jagna) – Outstanding Organic Agriculture Technician (P5,000 plus plaques); Gemma Deloso
Bag-ao (Taytay, Duero) – Outstanding Organic Agriculture Practitioner (Individual Family) (P10,000

The emerged winners of the SUHID title will automatically be the nominees of Bohol for the Regional
Gawad Saka Search sponsored by the Department of Agriculture-Regional Field Office (DA-RFO) 7 to

Some 210 hectares (has.) of rice lands planted with hybrid rice (SL8, SL19, and SL 20) in the agricultural towns of Dagohoy and San Miguel, Bohol has shown good performance in this wet planting season ensuring the food security in the province of Bohol.

This came after the conduct of harvest festival and crop cut last Wednesday of planted hybrid rice in Mahayag, San Miguel hosted by the MAMAMIA Irrigators Association.

Provincial Rice Coordinator LorebienLagapa said that the yield performance has exceeded on the given target of the Advanced Rice Technology (ART) 160 hybrid rice program in the province as it yielded about 180 cavans per hectare or nine tons.

The harvest festival was attended by the visiting Irrigators Associations (IAs) presidents and farmer members namely: SANBABUE IA, Sto. Niño, San Miguel; DSMIA, Mahayag, San Miguel; and KawasanCommonal Irrigators Association, San Vicente, Dagohoy.

The activity was also attended by Provincial Agriculturist Liza M. Quirog, San Miguel Municipal Agriculturist Marcela P. Palma and some staff from the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) and Municipal Agricultural Office in the municipality of San Miguel.

The 75 irrigators and farmers associations in 37 agricultural towns in the province have been elated as it provides them free seeds and technical assistance in the hybrid rice production, recognition for the highest yielder by giving one unit of combined rice harvester,palay buy-back of which 10% of their yields would be bought by the Provincial Government of Bohol (PGBh) at P20 per kilogram, and processing the Boholanop alay to come up with the “BugasniDagohoy” at a lower price of P38 per kilogram. The Provincial Government of Bohol(PGBh) would recognize and award the best Boholano farmers who are winners of the different categories of the Suhid sa Malampusong Mag-uumang Bol-anon search on October 29, 2021 during the culmination program of the cooperative month at the Ceremonial Hall, 4^th Floor, New Bohol Capitol Building, Cogon, Tagbilaran City.

Assistant Provincial Agriculturist Larry M. Pamugas bared that some 25 farmers would receive cash prizes and plaques as winners of the Suhid tilt as a way of recognizing them for their great contribution to agriculture in the province of Bohol.

Pamugas said that the evaluators from the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) and representatives from other government agriculture related agencies have already identified 10 winners yet as the evaluations have been continued and they are: Vicente I. Luminarias (Trinidad) as winner of the Outstanding Hybrid Yellow Corn Farmer category, Pricila V. Oreo (Ubay) – Outstanding Open Polinated Variety Corn Farmer, Josenilo C. Gara (Trinidad) – Outstanding Corn Technician, Vida L. Jumawid (Carmen) – Outstanding Cassava Farmer,

Marcela P. Palma (San Miguel)  – Outstanding Municipal Agriculturist, Gemma Bag-o (Upper La Paz, Cortes) – Outstanding Organic Agriculture Practitioner (Individual), Tultugan Organic Farmers Association c/o Benjamin Logroño (Tultugan, Calape) – Organic Agriculture Practitioner (Association), Amelia Virtudazo (LGU-Jagna) – Organic Agriculture Technician, and Dionisia Baculi (Ubay) – Outstanding Local Unit Farmer.

Outstanding Bangus Culture, Outstanding Tilapia Culture, Outstanding Rice Technician, Outstanding Yielder on Inbred Rice (ART 120) Farmer, Outstanding Highest Yielder on Hybrid Rice (ART 160) Farmer, Outstanding HVCDP Technician and Outstanding Integrated High Value Crops Farmer.

Actually he said there are 30 categories of the Suhid tilt but five of these would not be included in the search because the nominees would not reach to three which is allowable by the Commission on Audit (COA) which are the following; Outstanding Environment-Friendly Barangay (most number of fruit trees planted), Outstanding Bol-anong Siyentista on Food Processing (fruits, vegetables and fish), Outstanding Association (this will be based on our implemented programs), Outstanding Agri-Enterprise on Fishery and Outstanding Bol-anon Siyentista on Feed Formulation (Fish and Livestock).

Dr. Pamugas said that on that culmination program, the PGBh would give recognition to the individual and civic association for their unstinted support and cooperation that they have been given to any provincial government activities particularly at the agriculture department even in this time of Pandemic.

The Agricultural Extension Workers (AEWs) services in the Provincial Government of Bohol (PGBh) must be continued especially in this time of crisis wherein the government is focussing on its food security program.

This was the categorical statement issued by Governor Art C. Yap last Friday during the zoom press conference when asked if the services of the AEWs are still needed nowadays considering that there are agricultural technicians assigned in their respective municipalities.

The governor instead lauded the efforts given by the AEWs in helping the Boholano farmers to boost their production.

He said that this time that the provincial government has given full focus attention on agriculture as the tourism industry has collapsed and we are not certain on when to boom again, the AEWs are important to help the farmers for the exact application of fertilizers and other farm technologies to increase yield and less production cost through the use of farm machineries in the clustering farming.

Yap said that the capacity of AEWs has already been tested in the Advanced Rice Technology (ART) 160 Hybrid Rice, Art 120 Inbred Rice, and Agricultural Rural Transformation (ART) Corn 100 Technology programs of the province wherein the farmers have yielded more than the given target of each commodity.

He said that because of the AEWs Bohol now is a model agricultural province after it was being named by Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary William Dar as one of the pilot areas of Province-Led Agriculture and Fisheries Extension Systems (PAPES) that could expect addition funding from the DA national office based on the Mandanas Ruling.

Yap explained that ensuring food security is the second priority of the PGBh as the first priority is the controlling of COVID-19 cases in Bohol.

He said that more efforts have been given by the provincial government to get the vaccines in order that the people would be vaccinated, strictly implementation of the minimum health protocols so that the cases would go down and the investment would come to Bohol.

To complement in the agriculture program is the water project wherein most of the 1,109 barangays in Bohol had already received the P100, 000 to establish or augment their water projects, the governor concluded. (Atoy Cosap)

Aiming to ensure food sufficiency especially in this time of pandemic, the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) in the Provincial Government of Bohol (PGBh) has intensified its Advanced Rice Technology (ART) 160 hybrid rice program in the province.

Assistant Provincial Agriculturist Larry M. Pamugas said that through hybridization at the irrigated areas the Boholano farmers could increase production and income.

There are five varieties of hybrid rice planted in the province namely: Pioneer, Mestiso 20, Longping, SL8 and SL20.

Along with this intensified program, Dr.Pamugas said that the farmers have received free seeds, technical and marketing supports from the provincial government.

In the marketing aspect, the farmers have no reason to worry because 10 percent of their yield are bought by the provincial government at P20 per kilo under the palay buy-back program.

The “BugasniDagohoy,” program is first in the history of Bohol’s agriculture that the province has produced, Pamugas added.

Bohol has 23,960.64 hectares (has.) of irrigated areas to be supplied by irrigation water from Malinao Dam in Pilar, Bayongan Dam (San Miguel), Capayas Dam (Ubay), Talibon Dam (Zamora, Talibon).

Governor Art C. Yap earlier said that the PGBh has adopted the hybrid rice program to ensure more production because the farmers could produce almost double their yield compared those who are using good seeds.

Gov. Yap said that the province has already experienced a significant record on this program wherein a farmer fromTalibon town had exceeded the given target of 160 cavans per hectare (ha.) after he yielded 220 cavans.

To complement with this program for food security, the PGBh is also more aggressive for the developments of Advanced Rice Technology (ART) 120 Inbred Rice Program, Advanced Rural Transformation (ART) 100 Corn Technology, Agriculture for Rural Transformation (ART) Nilotika (Tilapia) 1,000, ART Bangus 1,000 and the establishments of fish cages/ponds and more provincial seaweeds nurseries, and for the developments of the high value crops production. Assistant Provincial Agriculturist Larry M. Pamugas said that right after tomorrow’s OPA Management Committee (MANCOM) meeting, the SUHID evaluators will conduct a pre-evaluation meeting to draw measures ensuring the smooth evaluation of the nominees from the different parts of the province. The Provincial Government of Bohol’s strategic framework for agricultural development which is anchored on the Department of Agriculture (DA) plans and programs has been cascaded down to the purok level.

During the Orientation on Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) and Office of the Provincial Veterinarian (OPV) programs to the Sangguniang Bayan/Sangguniang Barangay-chairman on Agriculture Committee and Municipal Agriculturist, from the Local Government Units of Buenavista and Clarin last Friday at 4th Floor, New Capitol Building, Cogon, Tagbilaran City, Gov. Art C. Yap said that all plans and programs in agriculture in the entire province must be anchored on the DA Reform Agenda: Eighteen (18) Key Strategies.

Yap said the 18 key strategies are the following: Bayanihan Agri Clusters; Collective Action/ Cooperative Development; Province-led Agriculture and Fisheries Extension System (PAFES); Mobilization and Empowerment of Partners to attain scale; Diversification; Credit Support; Post-Harvest, Processing, Logistics and Marketing Support; Agriculture Career System; Education and Training/Agribusiness Management; Youth & Women Management; Technology and Innovation; Digital Agriculture; Farm Technology and Mechanization Infrastructure Investment; Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Measures; Food Safety and Regulations; Agri-Industrial Business Corridors; Global Trade and Expert Development Promotion; Ease of Doing Business and Transparent Procurement; and Strategic Communications Support.

The governor emphasized that the provincial government has focused and concentrated on rice, corn, high value crops, vegetables and fruits, coffee, cacao, coconut and dairy to ensure food security and safety.

He informed the Agri stakeholders that Department of Agriculture Secretary William Dar during his visit to the province last June 4, 2021,to lead the turnover of P387M worth of farm machinery to the Boholano Farmer Cooperative Association (FCA) appreciated the agricultural plans and programs of Bohol for this year and beyond he presented to him.

The DA Sec. disclosed that Bohol is included as a pilot province under PAFES in the Department of Agriculture.The governor said that 700,000 Boholanos remain in agriculture that needs a common plan. Vice Governor Rene Relampagos said that their administration would give much focus on agriculture as tourism is already established and only badly affected by COVID 19.Relampagos said that Bohol has a clear road map in agriculture being managed by Gov. As the first line of defense, he urged the Sangguniang Barangay and Bayan chairs on agri committee in the towns of Buenavista and Clarin to give their full support to the province to address poverty.Board Member Franz Gelaine Garcia of the second district urged the Boholanos for unity so as to achieve our goals towards agriculture and any endeavors of the provincial government.Assistant Provincial Agriculturist Larry M.
