Gulayan Sa Paaralan 2016 winners given recognition

The toils of teachers, students and pupils to plant and grow vegetables have not gone to waste.
It is a yearly event by the Provincial Government of Bohol (PGBh) that teachers and students be recognized and awarded.
The winners of the different categories of the Provincial Search for Outstanding Modelong Gulayan Sa Paaralan 2016 were recognized during the closing ceremony of the 17thUbi Festival on January 23, 2017 at the Island City Mall (ICM) Activity Center and awarded last Thursday at the Casa Rey Francis Pension House and Restaurant, this city.
During the awarding ceremony, Assistant Provincial Agriculturist Larry M. Pamugas said in the Philippines only the province of Bohol has sustained the Gulayan Sa Paaralan (GSP) program.
Pamugas emphasized that the PGBh through the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture – Provincial Agricultural Technology Coordinating Office (PATCO) Bohol and Department and Education (DepEd) have strengthened the programto motivate children to plant or grow vegetables.
Although, he recognized the endeavor of the teachers of making green sa GSP, Pamugas urged them to make revision or insertion on their curriculum or program that while they teach the pupils/students in cooking and sewing they give top priority of teaching them to plant vegetables.
He asked the teachers to re-echo the call of the province of planting vegetables to the Parents-Teachers Associations (PTAs) so that the community will get involved in this program.
As he thanked the teachers, Pamugas said he hope that they continue their support to the PGBh.
Pablita R. Cabarles, Gulayan Sa Paaralan Emplementor, Manga National High School, Manga, Tagbilaran City who bagged three times winner in the containerized gardening (secondary school level) in the implementation of the Gulayan Sa Paaralan said in the whole country only the regions one and two who could not visit in the 300 square meters garden at the center portion of Manga National High School where the fish pond, piggery, poultry and the containerized garden are located.
Cabarles said they pattern the Food Always In The Home (FAITH), Herbal Organic Plant Enhancement (HOPE) and Chicken Always Ready In The Yard (CHARITY) program of Governor Edgar M. Chatto.
She thanked the PGBh in sponsoring this laudable provincial search.
The provincial government allocated the funds for prizes to purchase vegetable seeds and gardening tools given to the different schools in Bohol.
She expressed thanks to the City Government through the City Agriculture Office for providing the school garden tools worth P45,000.
Cabarles also thanked the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI), Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) and Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and OPA in providing them the technology.
Pantaleon R. Gulle, Jr., principal, Bantolinao National High School in Antequera bared that in the next search they could no longer participate in the search because the lot they utilized for the vegetable gardens would be used by the owner.
However, he said they still support the program.
PamelaCenita, Principal II, Talibon II Elementary School said the Municipal Government Units (MLGUs) in their Bottoms UpBudgeting (BUB) the GSP project should be included and not only focused on infrastructure.
Eudoxio O. Mumalem, TechVoc Coordinator, Sikatuna National Agricultural High School in Talibon and Lucile S. Aclao, School In-Charge Saguise Elementary School, Carlos P. Garcia also shared their knowledge on how to develop and sustain their vegetable gardens.
RufaUgay, Provincial Coordinator – High Value Crop Development Program, urged the school authorities to don’t hesitate to ask vegetable seeds at the OPA who is the implementer of the GulayanSaPaaralan.
Ugay bared the PGBh purchased vegetables seeds for us to be planted to address the scarcity of vegetable supplies in the Bohol so as not become dependent in the supply from Cagayan or Mindanao.
The over-all winners of the search for Outstanding Modeling Gulayan Sa Paaralan 2016 elementary and secondary schools in the First District were the following: (elementary) Rural Category – Antequera Central Elementary School (1st prize) and Paaralang Elementary Triple Union, Catigbian (2nd prize); Containerized category – Cogon East Elementary School, Cogon District, Tagbilaran City (1st prize), Mariveles Elementary School, Mariveles Dauis (2nd prize); ( secondary) Rural-Bantolinao National High School, Bantolinao, Antequera (1st prize), Sandingan National High School, Calayugan, Norte, Loon (2nd prize); Containerized – Manga National High School, Manga Dist., Tagbilaran City (1st prize); Congressman Pablo Malasarte National High School, Cabad, Balilihan (2nd prize).
In the second district: (Elementary) rural – Saguise Elem. School, CPG (1st prize), San Jose Elem. School, San Jose, Getafe (2nd); Containerized – Tugnao Elementary School, Tugnao Carlos P. Garcia (1st), Handumon Elem. School, Handumon, Getafe (2nd); (secondary) rural – Mayor Inocencio Mendez High School, Carlos P. Garcia (1st), Danahaw National High School, Danahaw, Clarin (2nd); containerized – Campao High School, Campao, Getafe (1st), San Jose National High School, San Jose, Talibon (2nd).
While in the third district the winners: (Elementary) rural – Rosariohan Elementary School, Rosariohan, Batuan (1st), Canjulao Elem. School, Canjulao, Jagna (2nd); Containerized – Paaralang Elementary ng Sampong, G-Hernandez (1st), Buayahan Elementary School, Buayahan Guinsularan, Duero (2nd); (Secondary) rural –Cambuyo High School, Cambuyo, G-Hernandez (1st), Duero National High School, San Isidro Duero (2nd); Containerized – Guinacot High School, Guinacot, Guindulman (1st), Badiang National High School, Badiang, Anda (2nd); Technical Vocational – Sikatuna, Technical Vocational High School, Sikatuna, Talibon (1st).
