High prices of fish, not only in Bohol
There is no truth to reports that Bohol has the highest prices of fish.
According to Rosanna G. Lamdagan, chief – Agribusiness Division, Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) this was confirmed by the Provincial Government of Bohol (PGBh) through the OPA after sending to five neighboring provinces for prices monitoring.
Eleno L. Evangelista was sent to Hilongos, Leyte; Laila Bernido to Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental; Mary Ann Bayud to Cebu City; Edilberto Lamoste to Siquijor and Eufemio Lansang, Jr. and Jerrymai Anislag to Camiguin.
They said prices of fish in the public market of said areas are relatively the same with the prices in Bohol.
At the Public Market in Dampas, Tagbilaran City, prices are determined according to sizes. Tamarong fish can be bought at P160-280/kilo, Bangus (P140-180), Tulingan (P160), Anduhaw (P180), Bakay Small (P220), Shrimp (P360), Molmol (P200-P220), Katambak (P300-P330).
While prices in Hilongos, Leyte: Tamarong (P200), Bangus (P200), Tulingan Small (P160), Tulingan Big (P180), Bakay Small (P180), Bakay Big (P200); Camiguin: Bangus (P170), Tulingan (P140), Shrimp (P300), Katambak (P220); Siquijor: Tamarong (P200), Katambal medium size (P300), Molmol (P200-P220), Tulingan (P180); Carbon-Cebu City: Lapu-Lapu (P380), Molmol (P220), Samin-samin (P300), Badlon (P300); Pasil, Cebu City: Anduhaw (P200), Tulingan (P110), Bakay medium size (P150), Bangus (P150), Shrimp (P350), Tamarong (P160), Molmol (P120).
Evangelista bared that in Hilongos, Leyte some of the fish traders or consolidators buy fish from Boholano fishermen while most of their fishermen fish within the municipal seawaters of Bato and Hilongos, near the boundaries of President Carlos P. Garcia, Bien Unido and Talibon, Bohol.
He also confirmed that some supplies of rice and corn sold in their markets come from Bohol.
The PGBh has been fine tuning to venture in establishing the fish terminals in some strategic areas in the provice selling the cheaper prices compared to the wet markets to mitigate impact of high prices on the buying public.
Along with this endeavor, Gov. Edgar Chatto has encouraged the Boholanos to engaged in Tilapia farming to support the fish supply in the province.
Remedios Regacho, chief, fisheries division of the OPA said Tilapia fingerlings dispersal has been sustained.
The fingerlings distribution would be done during the INSPIRED HEAT-IT, Mini Agri-HEAT caravan and during celebration of towns’ foundation days in coordination with the local government units who will identify the beneficiaries or takers. (Atoy Cosap)
