‘Tabo sa Plaza’ exhibitors undergo capacity training
To ensure that foods sold at the “Tabo Sa Plaza” every Wednesday at Plaza Rizal are safe, exhibitors went through the one-day Capacity Development Training (CDT) last Thursday at the Panda Tea Garden Suites, J.A. Clarin, Purok 4, Dao, this city.
During the training, Assistant Provincial Agriculturist Larry M. Pamugas in his inspirational message said that Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) are essential to exhibitors considering they are collaborating with the Provincial Government of Bohol (PGBh) through the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) in the conduct of Tabo sa Plaza.
Pamugas cited that customers patronize Tabo due to the confidence on food sanitation and proper food handling.
He said that sooner or later if Tabo sa Plaza reflects good record and performance it will be conducted twice a week.
Rosanna G. Lamdagan, chief – agribusiness division, OPA emphasized that the Tabo sa Plaza was launched last 2015 to showcase the best Boholano delicacies and naturally grown products at the Plaza Rizal as what Governor Edgar M. Chatto has been wanted.
Lamdagan said the OPA has been looking at another venue for the Tabo because the Plaza Rizal is not the permanent place for it.
In the training proper, Laila Bernido, head, enterprise development section – Agrbusiness, OPA stressed on her lecture on Basic Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Product that selling products to the public or even for personal consumption , the good safety standards must be strictly followed to avoid the contamination of Spoilage and Pathogenic Micro-Organisms.
Food poisoning bacteria might spread to the foods if the food manufacturers, producers and handlers would not aware on these standards while in the preparation of the foods.
Gertrudes S. Fuentes, Head-Marketing Section, Agribusiness, OPA talked about the topic on marketing.
Fuentes defined marketing as a management process responsible for identifying, anticipating and satisfying customer needs and wants profitably.
Fuentes said marketing refers to all activities that are involved in moving the product from the producers to the ultimate consumer.
She discussed the 4P’s of marketing which are the price, place, promotion and products.
Fuentes said price refers the monetary value of the product and the only factor that brings in money to the business; place refers to the chemicals of distribution used in selling the product, promotion telling about the product and convincing to buy the products.
Eleno L. Evangelista, Head, Promotion Section, Agribusiness-OPA delved about Entrepreneurship that discussed about the positive and negative aspects in business.
Evangelista said positive refers to increase income, bring down prices and labor generation. While in the negative side it refers on the lack of capital, risk management, lack of skills and attitude.
He defined entrepreneur as an individual who organizes and operates a business, taking in financial risk to do.
Helen Igot, Head, Institutional Development Section, Agribusiness, OPA dealt about Bookkeeping of which she defined as an art of recording, classifying, summarizing and analyzing business transactions in a given period of time.
Igot said that bookkeeping is important in business to familiarize transactions, to practice recording in different book of accounts, to establish system in recording, to appreciate the value of business analysis.
She added that bookkeeping serves as the basis for checking irregularities.
At the last part of the training, the Tabo sa Plaza Exhibitors organized themselves into an organization and elected Felisidad Ombay as their president. (Atoy Cosap)
