Ubi Festival 2018 definitely starts Feb. 20
The three-day Ubi Festival 2018 has finally scheduled on February 20-21, 2018 at the Plaza Rizal, Tagbilaran City, and not anymore at the Bohol Cultural Center which was the original venue of the activities.
However, the opening program, Benignit Eating Contest, Ubi Challenge Eating Contest in the first day and Literary Musical Contest will be held at the Island City Mall, while the other contests and the closing and awarding program will be conducted at the Plaza Rizal.
The festival will kick off with the ribbon cutting and opening of exhibits at the Plaza Rizal at 12:20 p.m. to be led by Governor Edgar M. Chatto and Regional Executive Director Leo P. Cañeda, Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office (DA-RFO) 7 to be assisted by Mayor Maria Puresa V. Chatto, acting Vice-Governor Venzencio C. Arcamo, Board Member Abeleon R. Damalerio and all members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan and Dr. Dioscoro A. Avergonzado, Bohol Island State University (BISU) System President.
Right after the ribbon cutting and opening of exhibits the motorcade will follow from Plaza Rizal which is the assembly area to the facade of the Old Capitol Building- CPG North Avenue-Ma. Clara St.-Gallares St.- J.A. Clarin St.- and then to the Island City Mall wherein the opening program will be held.
Governor Edgar M. Chatto and Dir. Cañeda will deliver their messages while the Officer-In-Charge at the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) Dr. Larry M. Pamugas will acknowledge the participants and Acting Vice-Governor Arcamo will do the welcome address.
The three-day activities will be highlighted with different contests to add savor of the 18th Ubi Festival such as Benignit Eating, Ubi Challenge Eating contests at 3 p.m. on the first day of the festival at the ICM simultaneous with the Best Ubi Booth/ Ubi Exhibit Contest to be held at the Plaza Rizal.
The Literary Musical Contests that composed the Ubi Balak, Ubi Kuradang Ubi Rap/Jingle, Bugno sa Rondalla and Farmer Yoyoy Villame Voice Alike contests on the second day (Feb. 21, 2018) will be conducted at the ICM while the Pinaka Contest (the best quality Ubi harvest) will be done at the Plaza Rizal on the same day.
In the morning of the last day (Feb. 22, 2018), 8a.m. at the Panda Tea Garden Suite the Ubi and other Endemic Crops Production Technology Fora will be facilitated by Amancia Medellin an Ubi expert and at 2p.m. the closing and awarding program will be held at the Plaza Rizal.
Gov. Chatto will lead the giving of awards to the winners of the different contests, deliver a message, turnover of farm equipments and administer the oathtaking of the newly-elected officers of the Bohol Gardener and Landscaper Association (BGLA).
Board Member Abeleon R. Damalerio, chairman of the Committee on Agriculture of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan will also deliver a message while Rosanna G. Lamdagan, chief agribusiness Division, OPA will give a closing remarks.
A closing prayer to be given by Helen Q. Igot from OPA will wrap up the three-day activities of the 18th Ubi Festival in Bohol which will once again showcasing the different varities of Ubi especially the Kinampay aligning the goal of the province to sustain and improve the Ubi industry.
