Agritourism introduces in Balilihan
The people of Balilihan especially the farmers sector had already been oriented on what is agri-tourism all about.
This surfaced when Josephine Cabarrus, Bohol Tourism Officer last Thursday during the briefing on Vegetable Adoptability Trial held at the Municipal Hall, Balilihan, Bohol had introduced and explained well about the agri-tourism program of the government.
Cabarrus cited the agri-tourism concepts such as; rural/natural environment agricultural products/services, farm commodities, processing and packaging.
She also stated the benefits of agri-tourism which are the following: expands farm operations, uses farm based products in new and innovative ways, improves farm revenue streams, and increases awareness of local agricultural products/services, tourism products/services, farm commodities, processing and packaging.
She also stated the benefits of agri-tourism which are the following: expands farm operations, uses farm based products in new and innovative operations, uses farm based products in new and innovative ways, improves farm revenue streams, increases awareness of local agricultural products, increases appreciation of the importance of maintaining agricultural land, improves living condition, working areas and farm recreation opportunities, develops managerial skills and entrepreneurial spirit and increases the long term sustainability for farm businesses.
She added that agri-tourism generates additional revenue for local businesses and services from tourists, upgrades and revitalizes community facilities for residents and visitors, increases protections of rural landscapes and natural environments for tourists and residents, helps preserve and revitalize local traditions on art and craft, increases awareness of agricultural issues and values among the public, promotes the on-going use of local agricultural products and services, helps diversity and strengthen the rural economy via job and income creation.
Cabarrus explained that agri-tourism could really uplift the lives of the farmers of which the town of Balilihan is suitable in this program.
Gov.Edgar M. Chatto has a high hope that the town of Balilihan would become champion on agri-tourism considering its strategic location to complement the several projects he brought to his town such as concreted roads, TESDA Training Center, Bohol Island State University, Congressional library among others.
