Bohol joins “Rice Awareness Month”

The Provincial Government of Bohol (PGBh) through the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office (DA-RFO) 7 joins the nation in celebration of the “Rice Awareness Month” this November.
Lorebien Lagapa, Provincial Rice Seeds Coordinator in Bohol said the celebration has to be highlighted with the Riceponsible Fun Run from Bohol Wisdom School (BWS) down to Plaza Rizal this city on November 24, 2018 to start at 4:30 a.m.
Lagapa said the first to arrive at the Plaza Rizal would receive 50-kilogram sack of brown rice; 25 kgs. for the second and 15 kgs. for the third to arrive.
She stressed that once all the participants will be at the Plaza Rizal they will perform a zumba dance and will receive one kilo of brown rice each and will be served special brown rice chicken arrozcaldo.
Lagapa said the first 300 runners who would register early at the BWS on Nov. 24 will receive one free t-shirt each.
The provincial rice seeds coordinator bared that among the objectives of the activity are: rice awareness, “riceponsible” consumption of rice, valuing hard work of the farmers and giving them appreciation, and advocacy to conserve rice.
In the campaign to conserve rice, Gov. Edgar M. Chatto has instructed the OPA on whatever program to be conducted to recite the rice pledge right after the singing of hymns. The pledge emphasizes the “riceponsible” consumption of rice at home, at restaurants and at parties.
Bohol has 56, 913 hectares (has.) of which the 23,993.68 has. are irrigated and the 32,919.53 are rain-fed, making Bohol a Rice Granary of Central Visayas wherein 70% of rice supply come from the province. (Atoy Cosap)

Army to recruit trainees for citizens training

A compulsory military registration of non-reservists now takes place at the local Army unit here until November 17, 2018 in order to determine and select registrants who maybe qualified to undergo the 45 days on Basic Citizen Military Training (BCMT) to be conducted at Camp Bemido, Tagbilaran City scheduled this coming 17 November 2018.
LTC Crispin D. Barrete Jr (INF) PA Director of 702 (Bohol) Community Defense Center revealed that this year, an allocated quota of some 120 non-reservists from among male citizens in Bohol will be targeted for this military training. Those who successfully completed this Basic Citizen Military Training (BCMT) are priority for possible integration into the regular force of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
In order to qualify and undergo the BCMT, an applicant must be; at least 18 to 35 years old; at least a High School Graduate; at least 5 feet in Height; physically and mentally fit for military training.
Interested and qualified applicants are advised to report and register at Headquarters 702 (Bohol) Community Defense Center based at Camp Gov Esteban Bernido, Dao District, Tagbilaran City.

PDRP I – REAP Conducting Harmonized Business Planning for Regional Regular Sub-Projects

The Philippine Rural Development Project- I – REAP is conducting a harmonized Business Planning for  Regular Sub-Projects in Region 7 at  Alpha Suites, Mandaue Cebu City on August 7-10, 2018.

Mr. Jonas Luega, Municipal Agricultural Officer of Jetafe, Bohol together with officers of the fishermen’s association of Jetafe is heading the team for the province of Bohol assisted by Ms. Angeline Resquir of the Agribusiness Division of the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist.

Staff from the PRDP – I – REAP, PSO Visayas are the Resource Persons and facilitators of the three (3) day workshop. The enterprise planned for the said association is centered on the production and marketing of seaweeds.

It is noted that Bohol has eight (8) on-going sub projects/enterprises situated in the municipalities of Balilihan, Loon, Calape, Jagna and Mabini of which 1 Million worth of grant was released to the said proponents.

DA-BFAR-OPA conduct preparatory meeting for DA TienDA

Focal Persons for the coming DA TienDA is conducting a preparatory meeting today, August 8, 2018 at Panda Tea Garden Suites, this city purposely to finalize all activities for the coming big days. Mr. Gery Avila, head of the Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Division (AMAD), Ms. Rosanna Lamdagan of the Agribusiness Division of OPA and Ms. Eugenia Mayol of BFAR will be leading the meeting.
