Ubi Festival 2017 winners awarded
The Provincial Government of Bohol (PGBh) awarded and recognized the winners of the 17thUbi Festival held January 20-23, 2017 at the Plaza Rizal this city.
During the awarding and closing ceremony at the Island City Mall (ICM) Activity Center, awards were given based on the following contest categories: Bugno sa Rondalya Category-Tagbilaran City (1st prize), Sevilla (2nd prize), and Carmen (3rd prize); Ubi Poster Making Contest –Sevilla (1st prize), Carmen (2nd prize) and Sikatuna (3rd prize); Ubi Kuradang (farmer category) – Tagbilaran City (1st prize), Sevilla (2nd prize), and Carmen (3rd Prize); Ubi Kuradang (student category) – Panglao (1st prize), Baclayon (2nd prize), and Carmen (3rd prize);
Best Ubi Booth/ Ubi Exhibit Contest – Dauis (1st), Carmen (2nd), and Cortes (3rd); Ubi Rap/Jingle – Corella (1st), Balilihan (2nd), and Albur (3rd); UbiBalak (farmer category) –Baclayon (1st), Tagbilaran City (2nd), and Pilar (3rd); Ubi Balak (student category) –Corella (1st), Panglao (2nd), and Carmen (3rd prize).
While in the Pinaka (The Best Quality Ubi Harvest): Kinampay – Carmen (1st prize), Baligonhon – Sikatuna (1st prize), Kabus-ok: Carmen (1st prize), Gimnay – Sikatuna (1stprize), Binato – Bulayon (1st prize), Iniling– Cortes (1st prize), andTam-isan–Baclayon (1st prize).
In the awarding and closing ceremony First District Board Member Ricky Masamayor representing Gov. Edgar M. Chatto in his message said Ubi has become a part of our identity as Boholanos as the only crop mentioned in the Bohol Hymn.
Masamayor said Ubi Festival also carries a reminder to all of us of not only patronizing our local Ubibut also to help cultivate the growth of its industry.
He said our local Ubi industry needs support.
The board member from the first district of Bohol said the provincial government has continuously offered support through financial aids, innovation, legislation and training to further enrich the local industry.
Masamayor emphasized that the provincial government continues to give local Ubi growers, micro, small and medium enterprises an opportunities to showcase and market their products.
He urged the younger Boholanos to grow Ubi and be among local growers and local industry players so as the industry will continue to thrive in the coming years.
Board Member Abeleon R. Damalerio, chair, Committee on Agriculture of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan said Ubi remains the pride of the Boholanos.
Damalerio assured the Ubi growers and agri-stakeholders that the Province of Bohol through Gov. Chatto continues to strongly support the development of Ubi industry in the province.
He asked the young Boholanos to engage in planting Ubi.
Damalerio thanked all the agencies that participatedin the celebration and said he has been looking forward for the next Ubi Festival to be more festive and successful.
Department of Tourism (DOT) 7 Director Catalino Chan III who was the keynote speaker in the opening program of the Ubi Fest vowed that in next year’s festival the DOT will help in planning to make the 18thUbi Festival more festive like the Sinulog and Lazones Festival in Cebu and Camiguin, respectively.
Chan said if they were successful in Camiguin for Lanzones of which he was the author of the activities we should also be successful in Ubi for Bohol.
Gov. Chatto in his message recognized the fruitful efforts of everyone in contributing to the growth and progress of Ubi industry in Bohol.
The governor said let us be proud of this product especially the UbiKinampayof which its taste and aromatic smell are not commonly found in other provinces but only in Bohol.
Chatto thanked the Local Government Units (LGUs), association and institution who participated the four-day activity –Tagbilaran City, Dauis, Carmen, Cortes, Talibon, Alicia, Mabini, Sevilla, Jagna, Balilihan, Baclayon, Albur, Sikatuna, Maribojoc, Corella, Lila, Panglao, Antequera, Pilar, Bohol Island State University (BISU) BilarCampus, BoholUbi Growers Association (BUGA), Bohol MADe, Our Delibread and Universal Feeds.(AtoyCosap)
