Ubi Kinampay tops sale in Ubi Festival
The famous Ubi Kinampay registered the highest sale among Ubi varieties sold during the 17thUbi Festival, January 20-23 at the Plaza Rizal, this city.
According to Gertrudes Fuentes, head-marketing section, agribusiness division-Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA), the sale of Kinampay reachedP222,747a big difference from Baligonhon variety settling second with total sale at P88,912.50.
Other varieties sold at the Ubi Fest were Kabus-ok with total sale of P51,521.50, Tam-isan (P24,817.50), Iniling (P3,175.00), Binugas (P3,016.75), Binato (P2,695.00), and Binanag (P1,090.00).
The Kinampay variety was the most salable.Even at the first day of the festival the supply was already sold out.
The buying public had prioritized to buy the Ubi Kinampay in the province because of its unique taste and aromatic smell. Kinampay variety grown outside Boholdoes not match its properties.
However, there is low supply of this variety and farmers see this as a problem.
The Provincial Government of Bohol (PGBh) through the OPA has urged the Ubi growers to give priority to plant the Kinampay variety.
An Ubi grower from Alicia who is a member of the Bohol Ubi Growers Association (BUGA) said they are wary at planting the Kinampay variety as it gets easily infected with plant diseases.
The PGBh is looking for technologies to address the problem and impart to the farmers. (AtoyCosap)
