5-day Sandugo Agri-Fair set

The Isang Dugo Foundation has scheduled the 5-day Sandugo Agri-Fair in the province July 17-21, 2018.

Provincial Administrator Alfonso Ae R. Damalerio of Isang Dugo Foundation said the dates were set during the Sandugo coordination meeting Friday last week at the Café Caloy.

Sandugo matrix of activities includes kick off (July 1, 2018), Ms. Bohol Talent Night (July 7, 2018), Miss Bohol pageant and coronation (July 14, 2018), song festival (July 20, 2018), street dancing (July 21, 2018), Bohol Day (July 22, 2018), and Tigum Bol-anon Tibook Kalibutan (TBTK) on July 26-28, 2018.

Assistant Provincial Agriculturist Larry M. Pamugas said the agri-fair is one of the activities to highlight the month-long celebration which has been conducted every month of July to be spearheaded by the Provincial Government of Bohol (PGBh), Department of Agriculture (DA) and other national agencies, non-government organizations (NGOs) and the private sector.

Activities are aimed at promoting, integrating the promotion and marketing in support to tourism efforts of the province; to make the Sandugo festivities an entry point that would showcase Boholano products and services, to create opportunity for market research activities to establish the Bohol brand “Tatak Bohol” as high quality agri-fishery product that had passed food safety standards, and to upgrade farm technologies of farmer-entrepreneurs.

He added that the fair is a major marketing promotional activity that highlights the display of fresh, organic, agricultural and processed products; an appropriate venue for our farmer beneficiaries and local producers to test the marketability of their products and farm produce; features crops and other identified tourism circuits in the province.

Pamugas said contests with big prizes at stake will be conducted during the fair such as “pinaka” contests on vegetables (string beans, upo, pechay, ampalaya, bell pepper, eggplant, squash and okra); root crops (white gabi, sweet potato and cassava); fruits (jack fruit, pineapple, banana – cardava, latondan and lakatan in bunch, guyabano, guava, mango (carabao), watermelon (red) and avocado;

Corn (young corn); fishery (bangus, tilapia, and jumbo tiger prawn); booth contests; oyster shackling contest, mud crab tying contest and tuba drinking contest.

The Sandugo Agri-Fair is an annual undertaking of PGBh like the Ubi Festival to recognize and award the Boholano farmers who help the provincial government to sustain the agricultural development of Bohol. (Atoy Cosap)
